About

Who’s this “Mike” guy anyway?

I’m a Front-End Developer/Designer, Illustrator, and Icon Designer working in Seattle. I know a bunch of acronyms and alphabet soup that I won’t bore you with here.

Officially, my background is in Illustration (graduated from the University of Arizona’s Visual Communication program). I’ve worked as a webmaster on various occasions, as well as a developer and, of course, as an illustrator. In my current job, I do mostly front-end design, working in Javascript, Ruby templates, and the usual suspects of XHTML and CSS.

My background has given me a unique perspective; as a designer, I look at things from the perspective of the illustrator (a bit more freeform, and less inside-the-box), and as a coder, my focus is always on functionality over form. I do believe that function should lead form, and that the two are inseparable. However, my mantra is “make is work, then make it pretty.”
